27 Mar Does God Know Your Voice?
How many of you have a friend or loved one that you know their voice so well, you could recognize them anywhere even with your eyes closed?
So my question to you is, Does God Know Your Voice? Have you talked to God so much in your life that He knows the sound of your voice from every other voice in the world? Or do you more resemble a stranger to Him? Of course God knows you. He created you. He knows all of His children, but does He know your voice well?
A Psalm of David, Psalm 139:1-4. O Lord, you have searched me and known me! You know when I sit down and when I rise up; you discern my thoughts from afar. You search out my path and my lying down and are acquainted with all my ways. Even before a word is on my tongue, behold, O Lord, you know it altogether.
King David was a man who passionately and unapologetically loved God. He once danced in the street in his underwear because he could not contain his zeal and exuberance for the Lord because they fought the Philistines and recovered the Ark of the Covenant.
David said in Psalm 66: I cried to him with my mouth, and high praise was on my tongue. If I had cherished iniquity in my heart, the Lord would not have listened. But truly God has listened; he has attended to the voice of my prayer. Blessed be God, because he has not rejected my prayer or removed his steadfast love from me! Psalm 66:17-20
First of all, you need to know that God loves you. He loves us because we are His children. He wants to save us. That’s His plan. But He also wants to know us. Just as you want to hear from your own children, God wants to hear from us.
When we pray to God, like King David, when we cry out to God, and we praise Him and tell Him we love Him, and tell Him how thankful we are for His Son, Jesus, and how thankful we are for His help and His blessings, God hears our prayers. He hears our voice!
The process of coming to know the Lord is a journey. When I finally gave my life to Jesus and asked Him to be Lord and Savior of my life, I was at my lowest point. I was in such great despair and carrying around years of pain from abuse, rejection, betrayal, anger, fear, and insecurity. I was just lost.
I finally cried out to God to help me. I humbled myself and invited Jesus into my life, and things started to change. God began to bless me and help me. But, then I tried to play games with God and straddle the fence. I tried to be a Christian and still hold on to parts of my old life. God gave me a fresh start and I messed it up again.
Remember the part of David’s prayer where it said, ‘If I had cherished iniquity in my heart, the Lord would not have listened’? Well, that’s what happens. When you try to outsmart God, try to act like a Christian but keep your same lifestyle going, He will ignore you. Iniquity is immoral behavior, and trust me, like a loving parent, God still sees you, He’s still watching you, but God is not going to allow you to say one thing and do another. God will not allow you to live a lie in His name.
The eyes of the Lord search the whole earth in order to strengthen those whose hearts are fully committed to Him. 2 Chronicles 16:9
God is telling us in this passage that He is actively looking for faithful people that He can bless. He needs for every believer to grow and become strong in the Lord. You have to lay down your old ways in order to receive the full blessings from God.
Listen, we are living in a society that is so lost and so evil right now, we can easily compare ourselves to other nations who turned from God. We are centuries later, but we’ve learned nothing. A society that can murder fully grown babies in the womb up until the moment they are born is unthinkable. Unbearable! We are a nation who has lost our soul. We are a nation founded on God and blessed by God; a nation whose fundamental foundation was built on prayer and faith. How many times in the Bible has God brought judgment against an entire nation?
God brought judgment against Lucifer and cast him out of Heaven. He brought judgment against Adam and Eve for their sin. In the story of Noah, God destroyed the whole earth except for the few faithful that He saved. He judged Egypt for their treatment of the people of Israel. And He judged Israel for their rebellion.
Disobedience brings God’s wrath, but faithfulness brings His blessings.
If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him. But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea that is driven and tossed by the wind. For that person must not suppose that he will receive anything from the Lord; he is a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways. James 1:5-8
We have to pray! We have to talk to God every single day. We have to make our voice known to God if we want Him to help us and bless us. We cannot be a stranger to God and still expect Him to provide for us and bless us.
John 16:24 says: Until now you have asked nothing in my name. Ask, and you will receive, that your joy may be full.
If you don’t pray, if you don’t talk to God, if you don’t turn from your bad habits and earnestly seek what God has planned for you, you will stay lost.
I cried out to God when I realized I was lost. And I cried out to Him again when I realized I wasn’t living an honest life. And I’ve cried out to Him every day since because without God I am nothing, but with Him I have everything.
Without Jesus you have no power over sin or death. Without a life lived for Jesus, you have no life at all.
John 15:4-5 “I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.” No branch can bear fruit by itself. A branch separated from the vine is just a dead stick on the ground. Jesus is the vine. He is the source of life for us. We cannot be separated from Jesus and expect the fullness of life and redemption for our sins.
And this is the confidence that we have toward him, that if we ask anything according to his will he hears us. And if we know that he hears us in whatever we ask, we know that we have the requests that we have asked of him. 1 John 5:14-15
God wants to bless you. He searches the earth for people to bless, but you have to seek Him. You have to receive Jesus who died for your sins. You have to want to get out of your situation. You have to pray and ask God for help. You have to live an honest life before Him, because no matter how hard you try or how clever you think you are, you will never, ever, ever outsmart God.
Please do not be a stranger to God. Make sure He knows your voice. Talk to God. He wants to hear from you. He loves you so much.
