01 Dec God Confirms His Love
A number of years ago, during the Christmas season, my husband and I hit a low point in our lives. A couple of major things happened at once. I lost a large client and I was faced with having to lay off employees at the worst possible time. My husband lost his job on this same day after 21 years with his company. They were purging all employees who had been with the company over 20 years. So, no Christmas bonus and very little severance pay.
There is one prayer that I say every day. “God keep me under the shelter of your Almighty Wing.” I was sitting in the living room crying my eyes out, so scared and worried. I kept praying that prayer over and over again. It’s funny how we can ask God to protect us and help us, yet we continue to slip into worry and fear. It’s in our nature to solve our own problems, instead of surrendering them to God. Surrender takes practice and I am convinced that God allows situations like this to come along to teach us the importance of faith and trust.
Howard suggested we go sit in the hot tub and try to relax and clear our minds. The hot water was perfect and definitely helped to calm me down. I closed my eyes and laid my head back and continued to pray that God would keep me under the shelter of His Almighty Wing. I opened my eyes and looked up at the early evening sky. Moving right above me was a cloud in the absolute perfect shape of a wing. The shape, the curved arch, even the definition of feathers was there. This beautiful wing stayed right above me for several minutes before it blew away.
I knew that God had answered my prayer and was letting me know that I was safe and secure under His wing. My family grew up poor and bill collectors constantly hammered my parents for money. The fear of being poor again goes very deep into my soul. God showing this wing hovering above me spoke to my heart in a way I can’t describe. God confirmed to me that everything would be all right and if we just trust in Him, we will get through this.
I went to bed that night and again prayed for God to help us, provide for us and to keep us under the shelter of His Almighty Wing. The next day I was meeting two friends for lunch. My friend, Nancy, handed me a gift. I unwrapped it and there was this beautiful white wing ornament in the box. In the box were these words on a card, “Be gracious to me, O God, be gracious to me, for my soul takes refuge in You; And in the shadow of Your wings I will take refuge until destruction passes by.” -Psalm 57:1

I couldn’t contain myself and started to cry. I told them the story of the night before and the wing over me. God loves me so much and honored the trust I put in Him through my prayers and faith. He didn’t confirm His love to me once. He confirmed His love to me twice, so I would know beyond a shadow of a doubt that He is there and that He is my help in times of trouble.
As it turned out, Howard came to work with me in our advertising agency and we more than tripled the size of the business. We have been a perfect fit together in business and only God could have guided us through this and into a much better situation than we ever dreamed of. Every Christmas, I can’t help but remember that miracle and praise God for reminding me of His love and His ever present help in times of trouble. In this most holy of times, we also remember that God sent His only Son to save us, and offer all who believe, salvation and eternal life through the forgiveness of our sins.
For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord. And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger. And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying, “Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men”.
Isaiah 9:6 –
For unto us a Child is born, Unto us a Son is given;
And the government will be upon His shoulder.
And His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God,
Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
John 3:16 –
For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.
Merry Christmas and God Bless You!
