31 Dec New Year’s Eve Guide to Happiness
There’s something so exhilarating about New Year’s Eve. The prospect of a brand new year, a fresh start and a chance to wipe the slate clean and try again. We all need it. We are eternal optimists in our hope for better things to come. One of the most sought after emotions in the new year is Happiness. People just want to be happy. It’s not really too much to ask for, but for all the stress and strife we are faced with, happiness can seem far away at times. Here is a New Year’s Eve Guide to Happiness.
True happiness IS achievable by following God’s greatest commandments in Matthew 22:37-39. “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’
This seems simple, but in fact, it takes a lifelong commitment to seeking after God, striving for a personal and intimate relationship with our Creator and loving Him with all your heart, soul and mind. If God is first in your life, all else follows according to His will for you. It really is that simple. God’s love is complete, He is faithful to His children and He will finish what He started in you if you have faith in Him.
To love one another is the hard part. Loving our family through everything they put us through, loving our neighbors in spite of circumstances, loving people who are different than we are, forgiving those who make us angry or hurt us — it all takes discipline, patience, faith and love. God says to love your neighbor as yourself. Do you love yourself? Do you take care of yourself, your body, feed your mind, forgive yourself, move forward in spite of your past? How can we love others if we can’t love ourselves?
2014 is a new year. We have a chance to freshen our minds and wipe the slate clean. We can make the decision and the commitment to follow these simple commands from God and change the way we think and live. We cannot do it alone. We need the strength of God daily, through prayer and his help and guidance, to really change, thus changing the world around us. Love God, love your neighbors, love yourself. Is it possible to have a world with no war, no hatred, no fighting, no racism? Is it possible to achieve happiness? The answer is YES, if we decide this year to follow Gods greatest commandments. It starts with you!
God bless you all in 2014 and have a Happy New Year!
